Meet One of our Fabulous Instructors!
Eduardo Cassapia Ayllon
Native Andean Winds, Oboe, Ethnomusicologist, Yoga Born in the City of La Paz, Bolivia, Eduardo is a performer of oboe and indigenous wind instruments, a specialist in the musical styles of Latin America, and a yoga instructor. He began his studies in traditional Andean music at the “Conservatorio Los Andes” with composer Gerardo Yañez, and began classical oboe in the “Conservatorio Nacional de Musica.” The Reina Sofia scholarship took him to Madrid for oboe classes with Hansjorg Schellenberger (ex-soloist of the Berlin Philharmonic) and Jesús Garrigues in Astorga, Spain in 2002. He also studied oboe with Piotr Glaetsner in Ulm, Germany, and performed in the Willy Brandt complex (Berlin) and in the Radio Youth Orchestra of Balingen. As ethnomusicologist, Eduardo was invited to dictate classes in his field at the Rudolf Steiner School in Balingen, Germany, and to study with Christian Hommel in Freiburg. In Berlin he was also a private student of Arvo Part in composition and conducting. Eduardo’s conviction of the power of yoga to aid in musical expression and daily life is evident in his performing as well as teaching. He began studying yoga and kung fu in the RA MA Institute for Applied Yogic Science and Technology in Argentina, and his understanding of yoga deepened during an extended stay in India where he was a disciple of Swarmi Sravadan in the study of Hatha Yoga for six months. He later taught Yoga in the GFU (Great Universal Brotherhood) of La Paz and offered special seminars in yoga for oboists at OboeFest in Rosario, Argentina. Although Eduardo was a vital member of the National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia for fourteen years, he also builds his own native instruments out of PVC pipe. Member of the group “Chacaltaya,” he represented Bolivia in cultural festivals in Germany through ethnic music and dance. He is founding member of “Sagrado Los Andes” and “NorteSur” with his wife, a harpist, having created a discography of meditational and world music with both groups. He is excited to be offering masterclasses in Steamboat Springs this year, in a holistic and creative environment. |
